My 2018 Round Up…

So somehow, and I am really not sure how, despite me not posting very frequently on theineffabletravels I am still getting around 500 readers a month. I am pretty shocked/chuffed by this number, so thanks for reading! It has definitely given me a bit of much needed motivation to start writing again…

I’ve not posted in a long time, for a while I lost all interest in writing posts for the blog. I have had a lot going on this year and blogging has definitely not been one of my priorities. In all honesty my priority has just been making it through each day. 2018 has been a really really tough year, I could probably write a book about all the things that have happened, but I won’t bore you with the details. It is fair to say I am definitely happy to be seeing the back of 2018. I cannot wait to start afresh and take on some exciting new challenges and adventures in 2019.

A positive for 2018 was the amount of travel I have done and the amazing people I have met from travelling. Travel is my escape from reality sometimes and going on an adventure almost always helps me gain some well needed perspective on life. I have been really lucky to travel to quite a few incredible places this year, and I am SO behind in writing about them. Hopefully I can catch up over Christmas where I have a bit of time off work. I feel like I say this every year and then somehow run out of time, so not making any promises, just stay tuned! In 2018 I have made some incredible friends whilst travelling, who honestly I couldn’t have got through this year without. As you get older it is so much harder to make genuine friends, so I feel really lucky for the people I have met this year and the experiences we have had together.

Some of my 2018 travel highlights have been…

Joining Where’s Mollie Global Travellers…

Treyarnon Bay, Cornwall

You might have seen my post back in April about my adventure to Cornwall. In case you didn’t you can read it here! I have been on 2 WMGT trips now, Cornwall and Shropshire and both have been a lot of fun. I have met some incredible people from this community, some of which I have become really close friends with and been on more adventures with outside of WMGT. For anyone looking for travel advice, travel buddies or just to join a community and meet new people I would highly recommend you check WMGT out!

Travelling solo in Malaysia…

Langkawi, Malaysia
Langkawi, Malaysia

In October I went on a little solo adventure to Malaysia. It was amazing not only because Malaysia an incredible place, but also because it was my first solo trip in 4 years! Although my trip wasn’t quite as relaxing as I had hoped it was really refreshing to go away by myself, do things on my own and take some time just for me. Hoping to get a post up about this trip ASAP!

Learning to SKI in Italy…

Pianni Di Bobbio, Italy
Piani di Bobbio, Italy

I have never had much interest in skiing, mainly because I prefer the beach to the mountains. This year my view on this has changed slightly as I’ve had the opportunity not once, but twice to visit a friend who lives very close to a ski mountain in Italy. I surprised myself not only with how much I enjoyed skiing, but also that I was actually pretty good at it… or at least I didn’t fall over or injure myself in any way, so that’s good enough for me. These short, but sweet mountain experiences have definitely inspired me to do more snow based activities, so now I just need to befriend another beginner to go on a little snowy adventure with…

Writing this has been a bit of a reality check in the sense that although 2018 has been a rubbish year for me, there were some really great moments that I need to be grateful for. I am SO excited for 2019 as I have a lot of plans and things to look forward to. Travel may have to take a back seat for a little while though as I am in the process of buying a flat in London, so my bank balance is going to look a bit sad for the next few months… I have walls I want to knock down, floors to lay and a whole load of furniture to buy, but that won’t stop me from planning some adventures for when I do have a bit of spare cash again…

On my Travel Bucketlist for 2019 is…

Prague Castle
Prague

Central & South America: I’ve wanted to head over to this part of the world for so long, but always wanted to do it when I have an extended period of time so I can see as much as possible. I am hoping at some point this year I may have that extended period of time to make that dream a reality, do some travelling again and explore a new continent. High up on my list is Nicaragua and Colombia!

The Philippines: I think the Philippines is on my list every year and I still haven’t managed to get there yet, maybe this will be my year!

Albania: As a country that borders two of the most beautiful places I have ever been Montenegro and Greece, surely Albania must have something pretty special to offer! Hoping to get myself here for a little European break in Summer.

Budapest: This year I visited Prague and absolutely loved it so definitely want to explore more of Central Europe. I have only heard amazing things about Budapest so this is high up on my list for a weekend away next year!

If anyone has any other recommendations please feel free to send them my way, I am always looking for somewhere new or random to go.

Hope everyone has the best start to the New Year!
